MUNCIE — Since losing a full-time inspector in April, the Delaware County Health Department has had to “get creative” to complete restaurant inspections efficiently and get back to meeting state recommendations. The health department is now relying on two full-time standardized food safety inspection officers and two part-time employees who help out when necessary. They are responsible for inspecting more than 500 retail food establishments twice each year.
MUNCIE — This fall the Building Better Communities Fellows immersive learning program at Ball State is shaping up to have its largest number of projects and students in five years. The program’s growing popularity is a sign of its success, which ironically comes in the final months of the grant that funded the innovative idea. The fellows, one of five groups under Building Better Communities, received $750,000 from Lilly Endowment Inc. five years ago.
